What is Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?

Pelvic floor physiotherapy encompasses the assessment and treatment of many injuries and conditions that can affect the pelvic floor.  Typically, it can involve both external and internal examinations.  External exams involve the assessment of things like posture, breathing patterns and movement patterns.  Internal exams may be recommended depending on the injury or condition and would involve the assessment of the muscles in the pelvic floor and your ability to contract and relax them.  Based on the results of this exam, we will develop a treatment plan tailored to achieve your personal goals. Treatment plans can involve things like home exercise programs, management strategies, education and ongoing reassessment of progress.
